Julia Baum is an accomplished communications specialist and award-winning journalist with a reputation for impactful storytelling and community engagement. Her work has appeared in outlets like the San Jose Mercury News, Metro Silicon Valley, San Jose Inside, and the BBC, earning multiple California News Publishers Association awards, including a first-place honor for public service reporting.

Julia’s expertise lies in blending compelling narratives with strategic outreach. Her journalism often delves into critical issues such as city governance, housing, and cultural preservation, with a standout investigation into Santa Clara County’s solar panel project on an ancient burial site. At the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco, she used her multimedia skills to craft campaigns that promoted conservation efforts and events, and deepened public connections with the organization’s mission.

 

In 2019, Julia was selected for the prestigious California Health Fellowship at USC Annenberg, where she examined food insecurity and federal nutrition assistance policies. Her work has been featured on Good Morning America and CNN, amplifying her stories to national audiences. Currently, Julia is a freelance writer for Stanford University, focusing on global health and ophthalmology research advancements. Whether crafting outreach strategies, engaging with stakeholders, or writing in-depth features, Julia delivers impactful messaging that connects with audiences and drives meaningful change.
